Greetings, my name is Walter Hamm and this is my military biography.
I graduated from high school in 1971 and joined the Air Force within weeks of my graduation. I attended technical school at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ as a 44350-Drone Maintenance a.k.a. “Ground Launch Cruise Missile” (GLCM) mechanic .
I was transferred to the 100th AMMS in 1975, just as the Vietnam war was winding down. I worked as a “44 hammer slammer” until 1976, when the 100th AMMS was deactivated.
I remained a SAC troop until I received new PCS orders for Hurlburt AFB, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. I was assigned to the 4751st Air Defense Squadron, where I worked on the CIM-10B Bomarc missile system. The “Bomarc” was a surface to air missile system that was capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.
During my military career, I was stationed at Travis AFB, Florida; Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona; Hurlburt Field AFB, Florida; Edwards AFB, California; Eglin AFB, Florida; and Florennes AB, Belgium. I retired from the USAF at Edwards AFB, California in September 1991.
Today, I am a Logistics Specialist for a government contractor on Eglin AFB, Florida. I have been happily married to my wife, Emma, for thirty-four (34) years. We were blessed with two daughters and one grandchild to date!
